Beechworth |
T'Gallant Winemakers Kevin McCarthy and
Kathleen Quealy have chosen Beechworth to explore red wine from a
continental region. Continental climates have large differences between
day and night temperatures. These sunny days and freezing nights produce
more colour and tannin in the skin, which ultimately contributes to
a much bigger structured wine. Beechworth was chosen because of the
high elevation, poor stony soil and late autumn rains.
Pinot Noir 2002 Beechworth
in contrast to the Peninsula romantic style, the structure of T’Gallant
Beechworth is strong and intense. Big in flavour with ripe velvet
tannins, excellent balance & a long strong finish. Cellar for
4 – 6 years. $39 |
Sangiovese 2003 Beechworth
Ink black fruit intensity, a big wine with black cherry and coffee
flavours, and has an impressive, explosive tannin structure. Beechworth
provides the essential sun exposure and cool mountain temperatures
so necessary in creating flavour whilst building grape tannin structure.
The grapes are grown on flinty mineral quartz sand to our exact specification
at Amulet Vineyard. $28
