T'Gallant is the sailors abbreviation of topgallant,
the top sail of square-rigger sailing ships. It connotes the peak,
the best, the epitome, which is how Shakespeare used the word. On
every T'Gallant cork you will find this phrase from Romeo and Juliet,
'Which to the high topgallant of my joy
- Must be my convoy in the secret night' |

T’Gallant winemakers are Kevin McCarthy and
Kathleen Quealy
They realised the integral influence the red soils of the high ground,
have in creation of great white wine. The realisation that Pinot
Gris performed brilliantly in high altitude volcanic soil, penetrated
into the minds of those who influence, prompting a trickle of growers
planting for T’Gallant. Their trickle of growers from 1994,
has now grown to 26 growers in the Red Hill – Main Ridge region.
They share a vision and passion to make great wine that will improve
not for years, but decades.
Driven by an extraordinary commitment to quality plus understanding
and adopting the best of European techniques, Kevin and Kathleen
were Australia’s first producers in premium pinot Grigio.
The winery and vineyard were established in 1990. The visitor’s
centre and trattoria to compliment, is the shared vision between
two friends, food stylist, Louise Lechte and T’Gallant’s
Kathleen Quealy.
There is an atmosphere of leadership, style and involvement that
defines T'Gallant wines, La Baracca and their visitors centre. The
T'Gallant Home Premise experience is rich and confident. A vibrant
tourist destination set amidst the winery and vineyard that conveys
a sense of constant activity and quiet success. T'Gallant is stylish
and quirky with plenty to discover, taste, eat and enjoy.
