The origins of the name Mamre Brook date back to the first settlings of the Barossa Valley when William Salter moved to his new pastoral property near Angaston in 1844. He built a simple cottage from local stone and named it Mamre Brook, after the biblical home of Abraham in the Book of Genesis.Later as the Salters wine company prospered, the cottage was enhanced in size and elegance, set in a delightful English garden and eventually became known as Mamre Brook House.
The Mamre Brook wines of today are in the rich, generous style, reflecting 140 years of traditional wine making and serving as a fitting tribute to their founder, William Salter.
